But alas many already have, DeJa-Vu all over again and again........., unless convenient, especially political, to boost the 'support the troops' and 'patriotism' meme's, especially the hired representatives representing those who hired them and are alright with that as they do same! The only Government agency consistent, since first entering office, in the support of and seeking ways to help, they don't control the countries purse, is this Executive Administration and it's entire Cabinet when they can under their budgets and charges of the agencies. As the Administration of the VA continues fighting to rebuild what should always have been, while under constant conservative obstruction, only other Veterans Administration to attempt was under brother Vietnam Veteran Max Cleland but was blocked on many fronts by the congressional conservative ideologies at those times: “Why in 2009 were we still using paper?” VA Assistant Secretary Tommy Sowers “When we came in, there was no plan to change that; we’ve been operating on a six month wait for over a decade.” 27 March 2013, especially as we send the very few into our wars of choice, while being under constant attack by the, so called, conservative mentality seeking to privatize for corporate profit thus maintaining under funding that creates the then costly problems to fix and ability to attack the dedicated civil servants in the agency, any agency!
April 30, 2014 - First lady Michelle Obama announced pledges from foundations and corporations totaling more than $160 million Wednesday to help veterans and their families get the services they need as the country adjusts to a postwar footing.Calling this a "pivotal moment for our military families and for our country" as the war in Afghanistan ends, the first lady said military families should never have to face the challenges associated with the transition to civilian life alone.
Appearing at a conference of philanthropic groups, Mrs. Obama warned that with fewer homecoming videos and welcome-home parades for returning troops likely in future years, "we cannot allow ourselves to forget their service to our country. ... We've got to show our military families that our country is there for them not just while they're in uniform but for the long haul."
The first lady highlighted the launch of the Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge, under which more than 30 organizations are making commitments to provide a range of services over the next five years, including $62 million in existing commitments and $102 million in new pledges over the next five years. read more>>>
Congress, in Veteran Marchbanks statement, are the people served and who representatives work for, or are supposed to!
