Sep 19, 2012 - With a major national election just seven weeks away, senators would have to be out of their minds to reject a jobs bill for U.S. military veterans, right?Apparently not.
Veterans won't be getting a new, billion-dollar jobs program, not from this Senate. Republicans on Wednesday afternoon blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps Bill after Jeff Sessions of Alabama raised a point of order -- he said the bill violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year. The bill's sponsor, Patty Murray of Washington, said that shouldn't matter, since the bill's cost was fully offset by new revenues. She said Mr. Sessions and his party colleagues had been furiously generating excuses to oppose the bill, and were now exploiting a technicality to deny thousands of veterans a shot at getting hired as police officers, firefighters and parks workers, among other things.
The bill needed 60 votes to advance. The final tally was 58 to 40, and all 40 opponents of the proposal were Republicans. read more>>

Senator Burr is honored to serve as Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. North Carolina’s history is closely intertwined with the sacrifices and contributions of our military. With over 750,000 veterans calling North Carolina home, veterans’ issues have always been an important priority for Senator Burr. He is committed to improving the quality of health care and service for all of our nation's veterans.
Really, and that's why he can't seem to find his way, as Minority Leader of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, to the hearing room for the few hearings held this calendar year. He completely missed at least two of the few and I never saw or heard a reason for doing so. When he does attend he's no different then the rest in that political party, Senate or House, who constantly lay blame on the underfunded Veterans Administration, especially this past decade and two long wars, instead of looking in the mirror at the real problems and not doing their jobs while making empty promises that they will and are so concerned, just watch a hearing or two. He's also been a go to party ideologue as to the rubber stamping war cost, especially, off the books till the present administration and all borrowed right from the beginning, and still, as the surplus was depleted Before 9/11 and deficits had already started rising along with the tax cuts coming along with the wars, especially the huge for the wealthy cuts, the rest of us had our cuts going into our gas tanks and out the exhaust pipes as gas prices also started rising rapidly and never returned to what they were, not even close, pre 9/11, profits of the oil companies soared and still maintain record highs!
And speaking of the Sr. Senator from North Carolina there seems to be a major problem the Veterans attending the higher education industry schools are having that the Tepublican controlled State Legislature, like all the tepub controlled legislatures that ran on jobs jobs jobs, and still do, have done everything but while doing especially costly time wasting non related to the countries real problems legislation, nor Sr. Senator Burr, hasn't addressed: Student Veterans Plan To Sue UNC For Discrimination, forcing the Military Veterans, attending schools on the new GI Bill into court instead of the representatives of the people helping them address this problem and especially in these times:
September 19, 2012 - A group of veterans attending state-run universities in North Carolina plan to file a discrimination lawsuit against the UNC system this week alleging they are routinely - and wrongly - made to pay out-of-state tuition. read more>>>
Thus the State schools profiting, federal funding, off the Veterans attending schools just like the reports about the private, for profit, schools Veterans are getting fished into attending with poor results after they graduate, not the promises made to them in the sales pitch to attend.
The bill vote came as follows:
The bill fell two votes short during a procedural motion, with every Senate Democrat backing the bill along with five Republican senators and two Independents joining them. Democrats and veterans advocates had been lobbying for its passage, and called Republican opposition to the proposal shameful. read more>>>
McConnell, Burr and the other tepub leaders allowing those five tepublican votes to make it look like it was that so called bi-partisan support because they knew the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster weren't there, they controlled that and would spin it that way.
