26 August 2012 - Women play a bigger role in the military today than ever before. Saturday the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs reached out to those women who have served through a special summit at Pulaski Technical College.From information booths, to speakers and workshops, female veterans had all kinds of information available to them at the second annual Women Veterans' Summit.
KATV - Breaking News, Weather and Razorback Sports "We ask women, ‘Have you served in the military?' If they answer yes, we let them know they are a veteran and we inform them of their benefits." Gina Chandler is the state women's coordinator the VA. She says there are about 20,000 woman veterans in Arkansas. But surprisingly, many of them don't know it because they think serving in combat is what makes you a veteran. Chandler says that's not true.
Take 92-year-old Rita Miller, for example. She joined the army as a nurse back in 1943. "In those days, it was kind of different," Miller recalled. "There weren't too many women in the military." read more>>>
