Public - Private!!! That's what once built what we had and many envied and not long ago, and is needed once again, and would have been if not obstructed in the chambers of our government, federal and states, while those who've reaped hoard their gains off everyone's labors!
"Many of our troops are coming home, back to civilian life. And as you return, I know that you’re looking for new jobs and new opportunities and new ways to serve this great country of ours." - Pres. Barack Obama
June 01, 2012 - According to the Air Force Times, the unemployment rate for Iraq-Afghanistan veterans in May 2012 is 12.7 percent. Through a program called "Joining Forces," the First Lady, Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, are reaching out to industry to train and hire returning veterans. This initiative reaches beyond the White House, as now the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to find employment for veterans in the water and wastewater sector. The focus on the water and wastewater sector seems random, but there is a reason why EPA and VA are focusing their attention on this sector. In 2008, the Water Environment Federation conducted a study on the potential for a labor shortage in this field as workers retired. The October 2008 Final Report by the Task Force on Workforce Sustainability concluded that within the next ten years 37 percent of water utility workers and 31 percent of wastewater utility workers will retire. At the same time, infrastructure that was created in the 1960s and 1970s would need to be upgraded or replaced, putting additional strains on the systems. In short, the need for new replacements for retiring workers is immediate and possibly acute. read more>>>
During but especially after WWII the two combined to not only build a growing economy but high skilled experienced trade professionals, now referred to as skilled labor to maintain the stagnated or lower wages and considered uneducated in our higher education industry, along with the needed educational professions. I know, I grew up in and into and had a part in at least for a decade and a half or so. Then that was stripped away with the free market supply side capitalism, better known as reaganomics, where the private is supposed to be trickling in the investments for economic growth while also regulating themselves. As that started we started shipping those, needed for national security and more, experienced innovative trades out of country along with our manufacturing etc.. Those that envied are now full of the experience and moving rapidly away from us, developing also what we had once started, alternative energy sources, and the special interests have blocked for the past some four decades in building that industry and it's spin offs from. Romney likes to talk about that 'greatest generation', thing is he looks at it as a bottom line economic growth instead of economic growth that builds the bottom line with capitalism as it should be, everyone sharing in the labors, innovations, experience and product quality!!
