The Veterans Administration, under Secretary Shinseki, seems to be continuing the need for added National Cemeteries, one of many issues they've been tackling, as they've already started, or are getting stated, new as well as upgrading existing National Cemeteries across the United States. ATTN Florida land owners!
09.02.10 - Property owners alert: The federal government needs more land to open two more Veteran Administration cemeteries in the northern portion of veteran-rich Florida.
The VA put out an announcement Wednesday seeking ``landowners willing to sell or donate at least 200 contiguous, developable acres in both Central East Florida and Tallahassee that can be developed for new national cemeteries.''
Florida ranks third in the nation for veterans living in the state.
It has an estimated 1,650,876 million former U.S. service men and women, behind only California with 1,971,959 veterans and Texas with 1,693,791.
There are already seven VA cemeteries in Florida. South Florida's is in Lake Worth.
Demand has been increasing at the VA's 131 cemeteries, which last year buried a record 106,000 veterans and their spouses, said National Cemetery Administration spokesman Mike Nacincik. {read more}
