DOD Struggles With Health Care Costs, VA Faces Challenges In Providing Care
May 11, 2010 Defense Secretary Robert Gate spoke about the need to control soaring defense costs, especially health care expenses, while Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki responded to several health care challenges facing veterans' health care.
In a speech in Abilene, Kan., marking the 65th anniversary of the end of the World War II in Europe, "Gates said this weekend the Pentagon is going to have to start living at least closer to its means," Marketplace reports. Gates is quoted as saying: "Leaving aside the sacred obligation we have to America's wounded warriors, health care costs are eating the Defense Department alive. The Pentagon spends $50 billion a year on health care -- more than double what it did 10 years ago. Continued

As a 1964 U.S. Army length of service miltary retiree who served this deceitful, thankless, and unfogivig nation on the low draft-era pay and nonexistent allowances only to be BETRAYED along with 432,000 cohorts on future retired pay by the changing of a decades old law after we had done our time I think it's long over due that steps be take to remove much of the money going to my succesors.
ReplyDeleteI have endured this pay discrination now for over 46 years.
Medicare did not even exist when I retired. Under the lsws of this nation I had "earned" life-time health care for myself and eligible dependents.
In the '80s I received a letter from the Pentagon telling me "On becoming age 65 and no longer subject to recall to active duty, and wanting any health care go to Social lSecrity and apply for Medicare part B" along with the draft-dodger, highly paid civilian, and now the ingrate highly paid miltary successor. So for 31 years I have paid: part, most or currently all of the health care for myself and my wife of voer 61 years.
It's long psst itme to correct this injustice. Let he later retirees pay for their care aa I have had to do.
