All these reports leave out that Sec. McDonald is also a Veteran, not just a business exec., Vet to Vet on Reality. And Thankfully carrying on where Gen Shinseki left off in fighting to rebuild the VA, with for a first huge help from an Executive administration and it's Cabinet where they can, the country had promised and Never Delivered!!
As Country ignores or outright denies, so they don't need to Sacrifice, so many issues, especially from our war theaters!! For decades and wars from and especially the past decade plus!!
11 February 2015 - Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald on Wednesday asked a Republican lawmaker who served in both Iraq wars, "What have you done?" as the two men sparred over huge cost overruns at a troubled Denver VA hospital.McDonald was defending the VA's budget at a hearing when he and Colorado Rep. Mike Coffman tussled over construction delays and cost increases at the long-delayed hospital project.
After a few minutes of arguing, McDonald snapped at Coffman: "I've run a large company, sir. What have you done?"
Coffman, an Army veteran, did not respond at the hearing. But the four-term lawmaker said in a statement later that he could tell McDonald a few things he hasn't done.
snip McDonald said he was offended by Coffman's remarks and noted that he had only been on the job for six months.
"You've been here longer than I have. If there's a problem in Denver, I think you own it more than I do," he told Coffman. read more>>>
The problems at the Denver VA Hospital isn't the VA it's the private contractor doing Government contract work and subs building the facility, like it has been in FL. Others have finally been constructed, one soon to open in Charlotte NC with no problems in constructing and is way over in need to relieve the nearest VA Hospital in Salisbury NC the conservatives wanted to privatize for corporate profit in the early years of OEF/OIF conflicts. Some finally upgraded, like the Salisbury facility, same for National Cemeteries long needed others upgraded, that had been ignored, by Country served, for years.
Most Vets, a few maybe and those that are usually conservative ideologues, aren't looking for a free ride! Once in the Veterans community they're also rejoining the population they served and thus have a responsibility, and are still serving the society, to engage in the needs of the communities and society, some breaks fine, but showing, poser, patriotism by civil servants and those they represent can go only so far! They also, by rejoining, have the responsibility to their fellow vets and those to come to take care of those in need because of their service to the greater majority and not join in ignoring or denying the issues faced, especially from the flag waving wars, by many who've served! Prior decades and wars of and especially this past decade plus and two wars, abandoning the missions and those sent to accomplish so extremely quick after 9/11! It's not the VA's fault for decades of conservative under funding thus creating their wanted scandals to rush in privatization for corporate profit!!
Neither of these recent wars have yet been paid for, nor the continued blowback from the spread and growth from the policies implemented!
Neither the long term results from, including the long ignored or outright denied existence of, till this Administrations Cabinet and Gen Shinseki, only Government branch consistent for the past six years, Veterans issues from!
As well as under deficits most of the, grossly under funded for decades and the wars from now, VA budget is still borrowed, with interest, thus added problem creating costs, with representative who control the purse strings blaming the mostly dedicated VA personal within, that shouldn't exist!
