One of the oh so many issues of war, long ignored, but finally starting to be addressed under the Shinseki VA Administration, or just plain totally denied, those doing so making comfortable livings writing and speaking, as the proof so the greater majority needn't Sacrifice and Fund the Costly Results from Destructive Policies, waving flags and parades are sufficient for the Poser Patriots served. By doing so, not just PTS, tens of thousands of Veterans not only suffer but have now passed away from either directly or by the many side affects from self medicating, in coping, to prescribed medications and much more. In the case of PTS that ignoring and denying has caused great harm in civilian populations getting misdiagnosed or no diagnoses for something that has always been and comes from the many trauma's in ones life.
AUG. 7, 2014 - Most veterans who had persistent post-traumatic stress a decade or more after serving in the Vietnam War have shown surprisingly little improvement since then, and a large percentage have died, a new study finds, updating landmark research that began a generation ago. Members of minorities who enlisted before finishing high school were especially likely to develop such war-related trauma, as were those veterans who had killed multiple times in combat, the study found. The new analysis, financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, is part of the first effort to track a large, nationally representative sample of service members through their adult lives, and it is likely to have implications for post-traumatic stress treatment and disability-benefit programs for years to come, the authors said. Both issues have been hotly debated during the drawdown from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The study, which was to be presented on Friday, confirms that a vast majority of veterans learn to cope. Yet most of those who do not — 11 percent, in the Vietnam sample — could live with traumatic stress for the remainder of their lives. An estimated 13 percent of current active-duty soldiers and 10 percent of Marines have post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, characterized by disabling flashbacks, hyper-arousal and sleep problems, and about 120,000 sought treatment in 2012, according to government figures. read more>>>
The triggers that can bring these rushing back into an individuals life, especially as to war, were evident not only long term in Vietnam vets but came rushing back to Veterans, surviving, from WWII and Korea as well as those from Vietnam and Desert Storm along with the many dangerous operations Military Personal served in over these decades, from the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq's 'shock and awe' and beyond.
It's extremely easy to say 'War is Hell!', just like the poser patriot 'we support the troops' then ignore the responsibility to same, because it is. It's the complete opposite of a sane and civil world most are taught exists or trying to teach from young age they should live in. Treating others as you would want to be treated. Teachings from religious beliefs as well. All engrained in the individuals minds that are then subject to the complete opposites in traumatic life, reality, personal experiences. Drugs might ease but they don't cure the realities of life, especially in 24/7 traumatic wars!
