August 14, 2013 - I am going to speak as a Marine and currently a hiring manager. Here are some positive attributes that come with hiring military service members.1) Military people are their culture built for mission accomplishment.
There are few people that can add as much constructive diversity as a military veteran. Diversity is something that is sought after in corporations today. The theory is that it gives a company a large base of ideas with which to draw from. This is normally thought of as a racial term, but it can be applied to different backgrounds and even sub-cultures as well. Few cultures have been engineered like the one military veterans have been a part of and even fewer that focuses entirely on mission achievement, cooperation and personal development. The fact is that there is no culture in the world that shapes people in the way the military does. It changes people into something that civilians don't really understand. What is more important is that it gives them options, mentalities, philosophies a framework that sees opportunities and solves problems that will pass up most civilians. Even more important is that the thoughts going through their minds are centered around finding the problem and fixing it in the fastest ways possible.

August 15, 2013 - The bad news: More than 6,000 Veterans are sleeping on the streets of Los Angeles, by some estimates.The good news: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reports that between 2011 and 2012, the Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System saw an estimated 22 percent decline in its homeless Veteran population. read more>>>
