Jul. 14, 2013 - It will take another month to remove the hundreds of storm-damaged trees at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System, according to officials.More than 200 trees at the St. Cloud VA were “significantly damaged” by the storms that ripped through Central Minnesota last month.
“Some of these trees have to be at least a hundred years,” said Jan Lobel, manager of maintenance and operations at the St. Cloud VA.
State and federal emergency management officials were in Stearns and Benton counties earlier this month to determine eligibility for assistance to pay for damage caused by the storms.
“We do not get any FEMA funds (for the cleanup costs),” said Barry Venable, St. Cloud VA public affairs officer. “All money comes from the VA budget in some form or another.”
R Preusser Construction Inc. of St. Stephen was contracted for $85,000 by the St. Cloud VA to remove the damaged trees and debris, including the stumps. read more>>>
