The media, and obstructionist government representatives, keep using the words that the sequester hasn't hurt the economy as expected. Frankly yes it has, not only those getting sacked, especially in government but also the private sector that supports, because of but also those getting furloughs thus less take home pay which ripples into the communities. But it's also slowed the expansion of economic growth as the government has either delayed or taken off the books up coming much needed projects especially related to construction and maintenance upgrades etc., thus hurting the manufacturing sector, that didn't grow and fell in hiring, and especially in the still very stagnant growth in construction, government and non government projects! There is also many other area's it's causing slow or stagnant growth, just what the obstructors and their supporters want!
