July 18, 2013 - Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE) will host its next webinar, “DSM-5: Revisions and Implications Related to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (EDT) July 25.The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) provides standard common language to classify mental disorders. The fifth revision of DSM, referred to as DSM-5, (published May 2013) includes changes to the diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and acute stress disorder. Based on research and various DSM-5 task forces, revised definitions include a broader range of symptoms with criteria more specific to PTSD and related diagnoses.
One of the biggest changes the newly released document holds for the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD is its change in classification from “anxiety disorders” to “trauma and stressor-related disorders.”
