June 7, 2013 - Marquette University has received a five-year, $5 million grant to partner with the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center to train future nurses to care specifically for veterans and their families, in anticipation of a VA nursing shortage.Marquette University's College of Nursing and the Milwaukee VA also plan to work together to advance research related to veteran care.
Milwaukee is one of six sites in the nation chosen for the VA Nursing Academy's Nursing Academic Partnership program through the Department of Veteran Affairs, Marquette University announced Friday.
The program will aim to place graduates into nursing positions at the Milwaukee VA or another VA facility, reducing the training time and orientation needed because they already will have clinical experience in VA settings. Roughly 20% of direct care nurses at the Milwaukee VA are now eligible for retirement. read more>>>
