Yesterday I put up a post about Veterans Tax Credits in Wisconsin, but it isn't only in that state where Veterans' are being added to other groups to satisfy the wealthy supporting the state legislators and other state leaders.
3 June 2013 - The Republican budget that passed in the N.C. Senate last month does not serve our district well and is wrong for North Carolina. For weeks leading up to the release of the budget, the budget writers had been making claims at every opportunity that deep cuts would have to be made because of Medicaid. This turned out to be false. The true reason for the big cuts is the desire of the budget writers to carve out a big slice of projected income tax revenues to provide tax breaks to the wealthiest among us as part of a tax reform effort that we were being told would be revenue-neutral.NC, and I'm sure plenty of other states, cut funding to state veterans' affairs agencies and needs years back, as the economy collapsed and the states went deep into the red, never to restore and they've either left them out in the budget years since or sought further cuts and more as they lumped vets into the other groups they're going after to please their wealthy overlords! I had personal experience with those cuts as it looked like I was in a real good position to be hired as a veteran state advocate, part time, in Asheville NC, would have had to move there and was willing to do, after the construction industry totally collapsed, that started downward long before the residential mortgage collapse. Talked to the lead vet advocate in the office there only to get a call back a few days later saying they weren't going to hire for the opening and were being forced to lay off two full time advocates there, this while it was reported same was happening in the Charlotte area offices as well!! This was one of the extremely few offers I was even considered for, reason I'm in early retirement and never wanted to retire and still not only able but doing the work in many trades in construction outside of my carpentry main trade area's I'd been doing for years with only a couple of shorter fingers, years back work accident, that weren't a hindrance.
snip Additionally, the budget writers failed to make provisions to provide funding for veterans as requested in Senate bills S357 and S392, which I filed earlier in the legislative session. This omission was made in spite of the fact that only a few weeks ago, commanders of active, guard and reserve military units from across the state visited the legislative building during our military appreciation day and stated that these two bills were among their top legislative priorities for our military veterans. read more>>>
