Veterans Are Collateral Damage In Walker’s War on Medicaid

Low-income vets won’t be eligible for BadgerCare

April 11, 2013 - An estimated 1,200 low-income and uninsured military veterans won’t be eligible for BadgerCare coverage, thanks to Gov. Scott Walker’s refusal to expand Medicaid under the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).

These veterans—along with 500 military spouses—are currently eligible for BadgerCare and would continue to be in the future if Walker had not refused to expand Medicaid programs in Wisconsin with $3.9 billion in federal funding.

Instead, Walker is downsizing the BadgerCare program and shifting 80,000 low-income working parents onto health insurance exchanges, where private insurance plans can be purchased with tax-paid subsidies. red more>>>

What's described above will also affect the same groups in many other states following the same ideologies and led by the same politics, as they argue their thinking on this issue of health care it shows their total lack of real concern practiced on the many issues which affect the Military Veterans, Military Families that have and are serving them, while they wave their flags and speak of their strong patriotism, condemning others they say aren't, while doing so.

Despite health challenges, Southern states resist Medicaid expansion

April 11, 2013 - But Mississippi and eight other contiguous Southern states, all led by Republican governors, have decided not to implement the Medicaid expansion, even though the federal government has pledged to pay all medical costs for the newly eligible enrollees in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and no less than 90 percent of their costs thereafter.

All of them – Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma – say they can’t afford it under those terms. The wall of Southern opposition is one of the last major obstacles to President Barack Obama’s goal of universal health coverage for all Americans. If it remains intact, nearly 5 million of the newly eligible won’t have Medicaid coverage in 2022, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, a health care research group.

Especially as the wars they are sent into are cheered on by most, and I see extremely few calling for the Sacrifice, long over due and these present wars haven't been paid for let alone the long term results of, the country owes to those that serve it! Especially during these past years and the continued collapsed government policies over revenue, federal and states, and the extremely partisan want by some for even more cuts and certainly no much needed new even from those that reaped more wealth to their coffers from their war investments!
