And she asks:
CROWLEY: Why is it that veterans themselves get the sense that the VA is an impenetrable bureaucracy? Because again, after five years it seems like that’s enough time to streamline this process.
SAY WHAT!! Like the country and it's blank patriotic mind of Non 'support the troops'. What about during the bush years, and the previous decades and wars of with obstructed VA budget congressional antics, especially when sending our military into these war and occupation theaters, while the country ignored the veterans of those wars, PTS, Agent Orange, Gulf War Syndrome to name but a tiny few in a huge number of issues, and their rubber stamping war cost along with no bid private contracts congresses, which that rubber stamping started Before 9/11 and abandoning the missions for why we even sent the military into that region, and continued with both long run occupations!
Oh How It's So Easy To Forget, when not asked to nor demanding you should Sacrifice, When Waving Them Flags Of Patriotism, DeJa-Vu all over again!!!!
From the Costs of War Project: Because the Iraq war appropriations for FY2003 - FY2013 were not funded with new taxes, but by borrowing, it is important to keep in mind the interest costs already paid, and future interest costs. Iraq War appropriations for DOD and State were 54 percent of the interest costs. If one were to include Iraq's share of cumulative interest through 2053, those costs could be more than $3.9 trillion.
March 24, 2013 - More than 600,000 claims are currently backlogged (defined as pending for more than 125 days) — a sharp increase that has many veterans and members of Congress crying foul.“No veteran should have to wait for claims like they are today. We have a fix for this,” Shinseki said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We will end the backlog in 2015.”
The ramping down of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has led to a surge in claims that has led to the backlog.
Pressed on why the VA hasn’t been able to deal with the claims more quickly, Shinseki offered few answers. Asked whether it was a manpower issue, he noted that President Obama has increased VA funding at a time when other areas are being cut. read more>>>
Not to mention this VA under Gen Shinseki, along with the help from the Administration and it's Cabinet have taken on long ignored by the Country Veterans' issues
The corporate press does the bidding of the corporate control as do those in congress, supposed to represent us the people, for same few multi million and billionaires, who many if not all make added wealth, all hoarded, through investments in these wars!
3/24/13 - The unemployment rate among veterans is beginning to shrink, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki says, citing the impact of a program spearheaded by first lady Michelle Obama."We all look for the opportunity to increase veteran employment. I think the latest employment numbers do reflect some impact," Shinseki said in an interview aired Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
"The president has been forward and leading on this," Shinseki added, noting that the Joining Forces initiative had the goal of finding 100,000 new jobs for military spouses and veterans. read more>>>
With congressional representatives, especially republicans, not only in congress but state house legislatures, not doing anything as to the reality of the economy and especially jobs, just keep mentioning them 'job creators' and more tax cuts for them, the hoarders mentioned above have to be prodded into hiring the employee's needed, instead of pushing those thay have to work even more harder then pushed already and with most at stagnant or falling wages and benefits, just to do what they should have right along. Especially for those who served in these two long running occupations!
National Guard troops are supposed to be protected in their jobs when called to National level duty especially but also within their state borders or now in other states as needs arise, most haven't been this whole past decade plus! As those reagan free market, bottom line, capitalists, the 'job creators', haven't been investing in economic growth and new industry growth, alternative energy and more, nor infrastructure they need, for the last thirty plus years!
