Country Must 'Sacrifice' not just Groups Within nor Volunteers at the VA facilities or Dedicated Non Profits Fighting for Donations!
We who've served or are serving do so for the whole country as so stated in the Oath we take on entering the service branches.
This first video clip is a lead in to a short discussion with House Representative Bob Filner who sits on the House Committee of Veterans Affairs. And in the 110th and 111th was able to accomplish actions only congress can do that wasn't done in the two previous during war and even some decades old for the older vets
Rachel Maddow inveighs against the disgraceful disorder
This below is the short discussion with Filner, a strong steady advocate in the Federal Government Congress who leaves after this 112th and at present is running for Mayor of San Diego.
Filner knows full well what the real problem is. He's been in congress and especially the previous 108th and 109th as the war drums were beat and this generations invasions and long occupations started with little to nothing being done by those controlling congress then as to the veterans of both, which shorty would start compounding the decades long problems with the agency already known. Those problems came from the continued underfunding as the country ignored the veterans about PTS, Agent Orange, Drug and Alcohol Abuse,Homelessness for just a few to Desert Storm and Gulf War Syndrome and leading into these two conflicts where the ignoring continues on many issues, right through the years they've been involved in fighting and many serving multiple tours in.
He's one of the few that has voiced it in the past, but he is still in congress where the peoples reps don't demand what the country should do, if they did the people would vote them out, while they rubber stamp wars of choice and costs of off the books and borrowed as the deficit had already started rising with the quick wipe out of the surplus even before 9/11!
His idea of just doing as to veterans request for benefits, subject to audits, is fine, actually is great, but that just doin cash for the direct benefits needs to come out of the already decades long underfunded VA budget which takes it away from other needs long neglected and many ignored by the country!! Thus giving those who already quickly condemn the VA and not look in the mirror, the representatives of the people, even more issues to continually lay the blame on the agency and not certainly the country served and who's responsibility is not being held up especially as they give oh so patriotic speak, show those oh so patriotic symbols and quickly condemn others of not being as they think they are.
The agency needs to finally be fully funded, the countries neglected responsibility, the whole country, to bring it into the 21st century in every way. The decades long of ignoring the veterans thus underfunding the needs has created the atmosphere that exists in the agency, trying to be broken these past couple of years, especially one that large that cares for the needs of those who serve the country and especially in it's wars of choice and not needs, which rapidly expands with these wars. While the country served finds nothing wrong with that and even the ever growing defense spending, or if wanting to cut some fight those who actually serve in in not doing so, with all it's built in corruption.
But he's right on this from the discussion and stated in similar by him over the years:
Jun 26, 2012 - "20 years or so, the IRS was totally dysfunctional," said Filner, a ranking member of the House Committee for Veterans Affairs. "Now, when you filed your 1040 on April 15th, if you had a refund coming, you would get it back in three weeks, guaranteed." Just as with the IRS, he argued, veterans' health care forms should be accepted subject to audit instead of needing to be approved. "Then they could get their check and get their life together, and move on right away."VA groups largely oppose Filner's plan, which he said is because they are "tied in" to the current system and just want to tinker around the edges.
"We want to talk about the glory of the war, how patriotic it is, but we don't want to focus on the costs of war, what happens when these men and women come back," he said. "We don't want to pay too much attention to it, because it undercuts what every government wants, and that's support for the war it carries out." read more>>>
And the Country, why they like it the way it is, matter of fact they'd just as soon the agency get even less funding as it's even easier to ignore those who've served the further out of sight and mind they are. Especially after the few hours of 'welcome home' or 'parades' of their flag waving patriotism and still no demand for sacrifice!
