Apr 9, 2012 - DANANG, Vietnam (CBS) -- A joint repatriation ceremony was held at Danang International Airport on Monday after Vietnam handed over remains believed to be of American soldiers who died during the war.The ceremony was held by the POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), in conjunction with the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), at the airport which was a major U.S airbase during the war.
Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Keane of the U.S. Army represented the United States government in receiving custody of the remains.
"This is the 106th joint field activity with the government of Vietnam. It was a very successful opportunity to look for MIAs. We were able to have six recovery teams and two investigative teams. We were able to get to a number of very difficult sites. It was very successful; the relationship we have with our Vietnamese counterpart is excellent. That relationship continue to improve overtime," he said. U.S. military honor guards and JPAC officers transferred the remains into a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft ahead of repatriation to the United States. read more>>>
