Mar. 31, 2012 - David Gray sees his wife, Marlene, as the other half of his brain.The 30-year-old Marine veteran suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and a traumatic brain injury as a result of being injured by an improvised explosive device in Iraq in 2003 or 2004. Dates are one of the things still a little foggy for David.
"Marlene, she's my right-hand person as far as my memory. She needs to help me get my meds on time, make sure I shower right. That's normal stuff you do, but it skips my head. Sometimes I forget to eat. It skips my head," David said.
Marlene, 39, teared up as David spoke about his needs and how she helps. At home in Circleville, Marlene also cares for her and David's 4-year-old and her two teenagers from a previous marriage.
During the past year, she's had a place to turn for support at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Across the nation, VA's have been setting up Caregiver Support Programs that are geared toward caregivers of post-9/11 veterans. read more>>>
