Once again, the masses do the one day thing called 'their patriotism' of 'support' and 'flag wavin', many are happening around this country served by the other one percent. This time some forty years after ignoring those of us who served In-Country. Ignoring and denial of issues like PTS, TBI's, Agent Orange,Veterans Homelessness, Suicides, and much much more, over these years. Carried to recent times, and after big parades, related to the First Gulf War then going home and ignoring the thousands of Veterans of with Gulf War Syndrome and the PTS's etc. of that short war. Only to cheer on, some 70plus%, the leaving of the Main Mission and Promises to the Afghan people, after 9/11, to invade and occupy another country at the same time thus raising the blowback in that whole region, and beyond, and as quickly as those magnetic signs disappeared so did any thoughts of the masses Responsibility to Sacrifice as the Soldiers, Families of and Veterans from, same issues and more as above, have and do, and that continues!
Charlotte region pays tribute to thousands of Vietnam veterans at Saturday event at Charlotte Motor SpeedwayMar. 29, 2012 - Thirty-nine years ago, Quincy Collins and more than 550 POWs returned from their war in what was called “Operation Homecoming.”
To many, they were symbols of the end of America’s wrenching chapter in Vietnam. They got parades. Ross Perot threw them a party. And President Nixon brought them to the White House for a dinner covered heavily by the media.
In the end, they were the lucky ones.
“The regular Vietnam veteran didn’t get that kind of reception; they were ostracized by the American public,” said Collins, 80, a retired Charlotte commercial real estate broker and Air Force fighter pilot who spent 7 1/2 years as a POW in North Vietnam. “He didn’t get parades, or dinners at the White House. None of that happened. It’s time it does.”
Saturday, in another “Homecoming,” it will.
Thousands are expected to pack Charlotte Motor Speedway to pay tribute to the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans from March 1965, when Marines were first inserted on the ground in Vietnam, to March 1973, when the last American ground troops were pulled. read more>>>
