And who will be the voices against, why the usual crowd of the flag wavers, with the hollow words and cheap symbols of support so well known now, in support of their obstructionist employee's in congress who have already sought to cut VA budget money, even before Iraq officially ended and Afghanistan is in the Destructive Stagnation it quickly went to as we left the main mission and promises to the Afghans oh so long ago. They found nothing wrong with putting these costs of wars on the credit card then and since, no bid private contracts and all, but always find fault with Sacrificing as to the results of war, now a decade plus for these two added to the previous decades for those that preceded.
February 3, 2012 - President Barack Obama is unveiling a new jobs initiative geared toward veterans Friday that the administration says will put thousands of former men and women in uniform back to work. The new so-called Veterans Jobs Corps initiative, first mentioned in the president's State of the Union address last week, involves partnerships with the Veterans Administration and the Interior Department, as well as state and local law enforcement agencies.
The president is scheduled to announce the new proposals during a speech at an Arlington, Virginia, firehouse.
But with a price tag of at least $5 billion, it's likely the new initiative will be met with stiff opposition in Congress.
Specifically, the administration will award $166 million in grant money to communities that show a preference of hiring post-9/11 veterans for new law enforcement positions. Meanwhile, $320 million in grant money will be awarded to various fire departments who pledge to hire and train new veterans.
The money for those grants has already been appropriated by Congress. But the president will seek an additional $4 billion in his upcoming budget to expand both programs. Congress rejected a similar proposal last fall that was part of the president's broader jobs initiative. read more>>>
Jobs programs, like this especially, have a ripple effect in the communities around the country, as did the recovery funds program which also created long term jobs. Putting these veterans to work, which the private sector should be doing especially under it's established free market capitalism ideology, will help small businesses, real small businesses, grow as well as create jobs for others and same for the veterans to move into, or help their brothers and sister to, if they choose. If the grossly wealthy aren't going to play their own game, while hoarding that wealth or easily spending to buy power and influence in government and beyond, then it's up to society, and the long awaited actual Sacrifice, to change the rules of that game as well, especially the rules that benefit these 1%'s!
