We who serve this Country in it's Military and either continue serving or become the Veterans of 'Serve the Country and it's Constitution' as said by all who take the Oath of service to!
We don't serve lotteries, we don't serve political parties, we don't serve small groups of actual caring citizens who have to fight for funding, we don't serve groups of people targeted for taxes, i.e. sin taxes and others, so the greater majority can use and have access to everything a government sets for the society but refuse to pony up for the costs, we don't serve any special interests within, We Serve All!
If you aren't going to fund the results of our wars you send the few into, especially wars of choice, then Stop Cheering them on while waving those flags and using the verbal words of support along with the cheap symbols.
It's been decades of ignoring us older vets, and under funding the VA, and now we have veterans of two more long running occupations of others, who have fought and returned home under the most extremely blatant show of Non Support.
Tax cuts started as you cheered on the sending into wars and yet there is No Demand for Personal Sacrifice as a Nation as these younger vets come home. Especially from the wealthy elite who are still reaping benefits off their investment in, directly or indirectly, and got those huge cuts to generate job growth as to the free market capitalism ideology, been over a decade now, where are those jobs especially for these returning vets. And your lame excuses about not being sure what Washington is going to do got old as soon as you first aired them, your capitalism ideology didn't call for that, it calls for you to carry the load with no need for government investment.
And this article about Iowa isn't the only place this is happening, it's across this country, the short funding on the needs of these less then one percent who serve, survived and are coming home and out of the military but even those staying in aren't rewarded as they should be!
January 19, 2012 - Despite an infusion of nearly $10 million in lottery funds, investments by the Veteran Trust Fund are not generating enough interest to cover the emergency needs of Iowa veterans. The trust fund was established by the Iowa Legislature to cover veterans’ needs, such as unemployment assistance, dental care, emergency home and vehicle repairs and reimbursement for honor guards.
By law, only the interest earned on the fund may be spent. Due to falling interest rates, $41,000 available last year, said Dan Gannon of Ankeny, a member of the Iowa Commission on Veterans Affairs. In previous years, it spent as much $173,000.
“So we have veterans waiting to be helped,” he said.
Assistance from the trust fund is the “last resort” for veterans who must apply to their county veterans affairs commission before seeking help from the state fund, Gannon told the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee on Wednesday, which was observed as Veterans Day at the Capitol.
The legislature put $5 million into the trust fund when it was created and capped it at $50 million. The principal has grown to about $14 million as a result of nearly $10 million in proceeds from Iowa Lottery games.
In this economy, however, that doesn’t generate enough interest to meet veterans’ needs, said Veterans Affairs Commissioner Jodi Tymeson, a former legislator. read more>>>
Meanwhile we have those hired to represent and serve us, in congress especially but also state houses, laying blame on the agencies who are underfunded and have been for decades, instead of actually doing their jobs and filling the real needs by Demanding that Sacrifice by the whole country for the Sacrifice by those who serve and their families!!
Thankfully, finally, we have one Government Branch that continuously talks to and about not only the Veterans needs but those still serving as well as their families and it's agency head, the VA, along with those he brought in with him, Actually doing, or trying to, with what the Country has allocated through those congressional representatives whining at the VA in their hearings!
