But vision loss can affect anyone, and it is affecting thousands of veterans.
The St. Cloud VA Health Care System will host a free screening of “Going Blind,” a film by Joseph Lovett, at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Paramount Theatre to raise awareness about vision loss.
“There are a growing number of veterans with vision loss. It doesn’t necessarily correlate with their combat experience, but it does correlate with age and chronic diseases, particularly macular degeneration and glaucoma, and diabetes,” said Heidi Ampe, a social worker at the St. Cloud VA.
Veterans and community members are invited to Thursday’s movie to learn more about vision issues caused by those conditions.
“The goal of the film is to address the many issues facing the blind and visually impaired, and let people know how early detection can save their vision,” said Barry Venable, St. Cloud VA public affairs officer. read more>>>
