VA healthcare still needs improvement {Yes but,Reality!}

The VA will maintain, as it has now for decades, since Korea, being blamed for any and all problems as it constantly has to play catchup to what should be the best physical and mental care facilities in the world as well as advanced technology in record keeping, that's the easy way out for the masses who don't serve, and even veterans of a certain political mindset, and their representatives especially the long time obstructionist! Which wastes monies instead of saving monies by running more efficiently!

Not until this country is either forced to or demands to actually 'Sacrifice', now presently past a decade of not after cheering on two more wars of choice, especially the wealthy and investors who have reaped huge profits off the defense industry, political points are made when the representatives blame others while not doing the jobs hired for by the people not special interests!

Luckily the past few years has corrected what wasn't done in the previous years while the country sent soldiers into those two wars as well as sought and won the needs of us older vets, much much more needs to be done. These past months have seen an attempt to lock the brakes on all that and even roll back those advances in the House of Representatives especially, that has to stop and the agency should be funded like the defense department of no questions asked, in the long term that will start actually saving money!!

OUR OPINION: Elected officials should press the agency for quicker progress

05.05.11 - All is still not well at the Veterans Administration’s hospitals, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office, which conducted a follow-up review more than two years after thousands of veterans were put at risk of disease because of lax sterilization practices. This is simply unacceptable for the agency upon whom literally millions of veterans — men and women, newly returned from Afghanistan or aging World War II warriors — depend for healthcare and other services.

One of the VA hospitals still found wanting is Miami’s, where unsterilized equipment was used to perform colonoscopies between 2004 and 2009. At least 2,400 veterans had to be tracked down and notified that they could be at risk of contracting a disease, including HIV and hepatitis. What a terrible consequence these former soldiers had to face. All because colonoscopy equipment was rinsed instead of being chemically sterilized as required by the manufacturer. continued}
