Eleven slides were sexist, three advocated domestic violence, one was racist and two promoted child degradation. One slide featured a comic strip in which a man kicks his girlfriend in the stomach after she tells him she is pregnant.
Other slides, the investigator wrote, were culturally insensitive.
May 10, 2011 - On Sept. 27, 2009, about a month into a deployment in Afghanistan, the commanders of an 82nd Airborne Division battalion met for a daily update briefing that always included PowerPoint slides.
This day, one slide showed a picture of a man and a woman in camouflage looking at their compasses. The man points at something outside the frame. The text below the photo says, "You see that?? It means get the (expletive) back to the kitchen."
The slide was the first in a series of offensive jokes shown at the daily briefings that eventually prompted a military investigation. Less than halfway through a yearlong deployment, Lt. Col. Frank Jenio and his top enlisted adviser, Command Sgt. Maj. Herbert Puckett, would be removed from their jobs at the helm of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team. {continued}
Might add, the meme that the military is heavily repub. and conservative, comes from the fact that most officers are either conservative repubs or conservative leaning independants, especially those seeking a career in, not from the majority of lower ranks who have always been relatively non political in their early years of service. Just sayin!
