February 27, 2011 - People say that a budget is a statement of your priorities. The drafting of our nation’s budget is a complicated process, to say the least, but I believe it still holds true. Our nation should invest in what is most important to us.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a spending resolution that reflects their priorities. At 4:40 a.m. when the gavel fell, the vote was 235-189 for the bill that would slash at least $61 billion from federal programs and agencies. Not one Democrat voted for it, and three Republicans opposed it as well.
Their bill terminated the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program, which was formed with the goal of ending veteran homelessness in five years. {continued}
