The Veterans Administration is Not a part of the Defense Budget and at a time of two long running Wars of Choice there should be the needed funding by the Country into the Administration who's charge is to fulfill the contract the Soldier makes in Serving the Country once home and discharged. Which has been shortchanged now for decades. As to going after funding for DoD construction, we all were witness to the barracks condition's, and more, i.e. Walter Reed, on bases that those serving, and especially those returning from these theaters, were living in as nothing was done to upgrade not only for years but as we sent our Military into these two occupations. Some of the conditions in both have finally been undertaken, thanks in part to the stimulus funding and an active Congress the past four years, but 'Sacrifice' is demanded as to the Whole Country for the few, and their families, who serve it!
Feb 7, 2011 - For veterans and military construction programs, Ryan’s plan called for a 3 percent reduction from the 2010 budget, which amounts to a 2 percent reduction from the Obama request. Exactly how this reduction would be allocated between veterans and construction programs is yet to be determined, but the total for the combined appropriations is $1.9 billion less than the Obama administration requested for fiscal 2011 and $1.3 billion less than the 2010 budget.
Ryan’s proposal could come to a vote in the House as early as next week as Congress attempts to approve a 2011 budget before the latest temporary funding bill expires at midnight on March 4.
This is far from the final word. While Ryan is acting with the authority of House Republican leaders, the Democratic-controlled Senate has yet to unveil its plan for approving a 2011 budget. {continued}
