A years-long battle to pass legislation that would compensate World War II-era merchant mariners appears destined to fail again this congressional session, and as the mariners' ranks dwindle, advocates are worried that could mean the end of the fight altogether.
"These guys aren't getting any younger," said Sindy Raymond, with the Just Compensation Committee, a non profit group. "We're losing more and more of them each year."
The legislation, which has been introduced several times over the past decade, would pay $1,000 a month to all qualified surviving merchant mariners. Twice it has passed the House, including this session.
Both times, though, it has stalled in the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee. {read rest}

WWII-era Civilian Mariners
The U.S. loves it's Wars {especially those reaping wealth from!}, cheering them on with false 'patriotic' meme's {in this day and age enhancing the hate speak towards others creating even more 'enemies' seeking blowback!} like they're movies or sporting events, but it really hates having to pony up for the long term results as to the few they send or do services in!
