Barnard creates wireless new communications instrument

June 12, 2010 MARTINSBURG - Caregivers at Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities had requested for years some kind of wireless, hands-free communications system that would allow them to talk with nurses, doctors and others while continuing to serve their patients.
So Jason A. Barnard, associate chief information officer for the VA Capitol Health Care Network, who works out of the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, used existing technology to "put together pieces of the puzzle," creating just such a communications system.
In the process, Barnard was selected as one of the winners of the Veterans Health Administration/Office of Information and Technology's innovation competition. That means his innovation will receive funding and support for prototype development and implementation, according to a news release.
His entry was one of 26 ideas whittled from more than 6,500 that were submitted by VA employees from across the nation, Peter Levin, the VA's chief technology officer, explained during a teleconference Friday. Continued
You might ask why only 26 idea's were adapted, part might be because of the idea, but more likely it's because of funding that exists. See the American people will only sacrifice a tiny part of what's really needed for those who return from the wars, mostly of choice, they send a few to fight in! And even that funding is used as an argument to get government, of the people, out of peoples lives, while they use what is funded by them, as many argue forcefully against paying anything at all!
