Va. agency investigates group over charitable solicitations
May 28, 2010 Virginia's consumer affairs agency has launched an investigation of the embattled U.S. Navy Veterans Association to determine whether the organization has violated the state's charitable solicitation law, Gov. Bob McDonnell's administration said Thursday.
The investigation was triggered by news stories in Virginia and elsewhere that have raised concerns about the organization's practices, said Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd Haymore. Haymore oversees the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which is conducting the inquiry.
"We just believe everything that's been brought to our attention over the last few days warrants this investigation on behalf of the citizens of Virginia," Haymore said. Continued
