12 Mar 2010 On Thursday, March 11, 2010, Chairwoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) conducted a hearing of the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee to examine the role the Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE) plays for veteran-owned small business. Operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with no formal statutory mandate, the current mission is to improve the business climate for veterans, minimize access barriers, and inform the public about the benefits of working with veteran-owned small businesses. In 1999, a government-wide goal was established to set-aside three percent of all contracting for service disabled veteran owned small businesses (SDVOSB). CVE is responsible for verifying businesses for participation in this set-aside program.

House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Bob Filner (D-CA) remarked, "Today's economy is particularly challenging for veterans, some who have sacrificed work experience or delayed education to serve in the military. Although it took far too long to find a director for this important program to help veterans run successful small businesses, I am hopeful that Mr. Foreman will urgently prioritize improvements, end self-certification, and quickly work to improve the support this center provides for veterans. I, along with Members of this Committee, need to know what resources are needed in order to be successful." -->-->-->
I would really like to see some of the veterans now, using the new GI Bill for Education, do some startups in the Green Economy, especially if they put together a good business plan and force some private capital investment into the economy, that which isn't coming in now. These Vets would be perfect, with their experiences and education in and out of school, to lead the Country in the right direction and to lead in the New Green World needed!!
